Join to apply for the Teacher - K-6 role at Department of Education, Western Australia. We are seeking to establish a pool of K-6 teachers for permanent, fixed‑term, full‑time and part‑time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

At Baler Primary School we value, celebrate and learn from our multicultural diversity by fostering positive relationships through engaging students, parents, staff and the wider community. We are an independent public school catering for children in Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school community is diverse, with representation from over thirty‑four different cultures. Our school motto, "a sea of cultures", captures and celebrates our inclusive and culturally respectful approaches to our teaching and learning practices and community interactions. We are located in the Pilbara and are the largest of the four primary schools in the Hedland area. We offer programs in visual arts, physical education, health, music, digital technologies and Indonesian, and a highly valued academic enrichment program for children needing a bit more of a challenge.

The Role

Suitable applicants will ideally possess innovative, enthusiastic teaching practices with knowledge, skills and experience teaching in a Kindergarten to Year 6 (K-6) setting. We are looking for teachers who are passionate, motivated and skilled educators, committed to improving literacy and numeracy outcomes for every child, every day, through our whole school approaches, explicit teaching and instructional strategies. It is highly desirable that applicants are committed to developing positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community. Applicants should possess a strong capacity to plan challenging and engaging programmes using an excellent understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum. Experience with Heggarty, Letters and Sounds and Talk for Writing are desirable. We are seeking applicants who are innovative, possess high‑quality teaching skills and knowledge, and are committed to ongoing professional growth and development, support current whole school processes and are collegial, effective collaborators.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school may elect to undertake this role as a 3‑year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3‑year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school. Note that south west teachers are not eligible to move to another south west school under this trial.

Eligibility

  • Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration.
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • Apply for a WA Working with Children Check before you start.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
