Primary objective Under the direction of the Coordinator Health and Reintegration, develop relationships with a range of stakeholders to implement policies, programs and procedures, for the effective reintegration of prisoners. Participate in the preplanning process with prisoners to address a prisoners needs during the transition period from prison to the community. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Develop successful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to implement programs, policies and procedures that promote and support the successful reintegration of prisoners into the community in line with Correctional Services Throughcare Procedural Manual. 2. Contribute to individual Offender Management Plans by developing realistic and collaborative plans for the transition period from prison to the community focussing on the prisoners safe return to the community. 3. Liaise with departmental officers to ensure the Elders Visiting Program is maintained and promoted through scheduled visits to the institution that provide opportunities for Elders to have input into individual Offender Management Plans. 4. Establish and maintain records on the development and implementation status of initiatives that support the reintegration of offenders. 5. Provide advice to the Coordinator Health and Reintegration, Manager Offender Development and Darwin Correctional Centre senior management on offender reintegration strategies, programs and activities. Selection criteria Essential 1. Demonstrated highly developed communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people from diverse backgrounds and roles. Experience working with Aboriginal Australians, including knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australian society and the role and influence of Aboriginal Elders in the adherence of cultural values. 2. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. 3. Demonstrated ability to develop a plan to assist people to reintegrate into the community and knowledge of support services and resources available. 4. A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of case management practices, motivational interviewing principles, ability to identify problems and provide practical solutions. 5. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate record keeping and compose reports to a high standard, prioritise and manage own workload effectively, and to work both independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision. 6. Knowledge of and ability to use computer, software packages applications including MS Office Word processing, spreadsheet and other data bases. Desirable 1. Experience working in a custodial environment. 2. Degree in Social Sciences or associated field. Further information Department of Corrections (DOC) has a Smoke Free Policy. The preferred applicant/s will be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and the successful applicant/s will be required to undergo a criminal history check (confirmed by fingerprints and name check) prior to commencement of employment.
