The Senior Environmental Assessment Officer (SEAO) is responsible for assessing and making recommendations on applications relating to earth resources activities across Victoria. The SEAO provides technical, regulatory and operational policy guidance to co-regulators, recommending proposed outcomes for complex applications, and monitoring the quality of delivery against service standards and initiating improvements.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A current valid Victorian drivers licence is mandatory.
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in assessing applications for regulatory approvals to use natural resources within statutory provisions, preferably with regard to mining, quarrying, petroleum or comparable industries.
- Industry, government or consulting experience in the mining, quarrying or petroleum sector with practical experience assessing applications for (design, development, operation and decommissioning) mining or quarrying sites.
- Demonstrated experience working with frameworks, standards, systems, processes and controls used to manage technical risks and controls, including a sound understanding of risk assessment processes as applied to mining, quarrying, petroleum operation or compatible industries.
- A tertiary qualification in engineering, earth sciences, natural resources, or other relevant discipline would be advantageous.
- Experience working in the rehabilitation (design, development, operation and decommissioning) of mining or quarrying sites would be well regarded.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
