Medical Assessors/Medical Specialists - Personal Injury Commission

The Personal Injury Commission (the Commission) was established on 1 March 2021 to resolve personal injury disputes in NSW. The Commission is an independent statutory tribunal within the New South Wales justice system, committed to providing a transparent and independent dispute resolution service.
The Commission exercises its functions in three divisions:
The Motor Accident Division which addresses disputes between people injured on the road and Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurers.
The Workers Compensation Division which addresses disputes between people injured at work and their employers.
Police Officer Support Scheme which addresses disputes between police officers injured in the line of duty and their employer.
The Commission is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeons to conduct assessments for hearing loss injuries in Newcastle (your rooms), and/or Darlinghurst (Commission medical suites).
The Commission has in place purpose built medical suites which includes a built in ENT hearing booth and separate testing room equipped with an Amplivox 270 audiometer.
To be considered suitably qualified, you must be able to answer yes to the following:
- Have 5+ years clinical experience in your medical specialty
Have been trained or intend to be trained on the ENT Specialty Module for Motor Accidents (AMA 4) and Workers Compensation (AMA 5) (Information relating to training for the ENT Specialty Module relevant for this work can be found [HERE])
- Have no conditions noted on your AHPRA Registration
Medical assessors are a statutory appointment made by the President of the Commission and undertake the follow activities:
Review materials/submissions provided by the parties in relation to a matter before the Commission
- Conduct in person medical assessments with the injured person
- Undertake the appropriate hearing tests for each matter on hand
- Make medical decisions on a legal matter before the court
- Prepare a certificate (medical report) and submit this to the Commission within a ten-day period
- Conduct all Commission business via the Pathway single digital platform
- Adhere to the Medical Assessor Code of Conduct and Terms of Appointment
- Attend 1 hour, quarterly virtual meetings via MS Teams to hear about Commission updates
