Scientist - Cytology

What youll do

• Apply well developed scientific judgment to the screening, and where authorized, the reporting and validation, of both gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology specimens.
• When required, provide leadership in the non-gynaecological and gynaecological preparation laboratories and undertaking specimen preparation, assessment, diagnostic testing and related duties both within the preparatory laboratory and at external clinical units.
• Actively contribute to a learning environment within the team through the development of scientific knowledge and expertise, and through regularly and actively participating in and contributing to professional development activities.
• Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team to achieve the goals of the work unit. This includes cooperating to meet deadlines, providing backup when unexpected events occur requiring urgent attention, and reprioritising work commitments where needed. 
• Initiate/contribute to the development of scientific practices, procedures, protocols and research activities within Cytology that support the continuum of care engaging cross-discipline referencing where relevant. 

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

• A Degree of Applied Science majoring in Medical Laboratory Science (or agreed equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
• CT(ASC) qualification or agreed equivalent is highly regarded. The successful applicant, should they not possess CT(ASC) qualification or equivalent, must train and sit both gynaecological and non-gynaecological ASC examinations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and ability to screen and where authorised, report and validate gynaecological and non-gynaecological cytology preparations.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake, or rapidly acquire the skills to undertake, cytology specimen preparation, assessment, diagnostic testing and related duties both within the preparatory laboratory and at external clinical units.
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment to achieve the goals of the work unit.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to actively participate in and contribute to continuing education and other professional development activities.
