Senior Underwriter - Flex Insurance

Flex Insurance, a part of CHU underwriting agencies, is a digital underwriting agency offering tailored to comprehensive residential strata insurance. Growing at over 100% year on year, we require a new  Senior Underwriter to join our expanding and multi award winning underwriting team.  This is a flexible location position.

About the role 

Reporting to the Underwriting Flex Team Leader, this role will offer the successful candidate a wonderful opportunity to use your insurance knowledge and flair, working in a growing and high-performing team. The successful candidate must demonstrate initiative, a commitment to excellence in client service, must be a team player and have ability to prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines. 

This position is diverse, day to day you will: 

• Actively underwrite renewals, new business & endorsements in line with your underwriting authority

• Ensure premium quotations for both renewals and new business are written to the prescribed rate increases and apply the necessary excesses

• Analyse the loss ratio and to determine if risk is of an acceptable standard including alternate methodologies

• Ensure efficient, professional and courteous contact and correspondence with all clients including direct Owners Corporations, brokers and Strata Managers

• Monitor existing systems and procedures within Flex and provide feedback to management on ways to improve the efficiency, productivity of the business

• Supporting the achievement of underwriting results and delivery of appropriate service levels by acting as a mentor and senior is for team members

• Working with other stakeholders to maximise underwriting opportunities, minimise expenses and achieve operations and service targets

Skills and Experience 

Essential 

• 3-5 years experience in risk underwriting in property (residential or commercial risks)

• Exceptional communication and relationship building skills

• Knowledge of Owners Corporation legislation, company guidelines, underwriting acceptance levels and systems

• Strong organisational and time management skills, able to multitask and working to tight timeframes

• Ability to provide professional level of service to intermediaries and brokers

• Ability to find possible solutions to complex underwriting problems within defined guidelines

• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

Desirable 

• Previous strata specific underwriting experience / knowledge of strata management industry

• Established relationships in broker market

• Tier 2 and/or Advanced Diploma in Insurance is highly desirable
