Primary objective A WorkSafe Advisory Officer is responsible for providing advice and support services to internal and external stakeholders; and perform the functions and exercise the powers of an Inspector in accordance with legislation administered by NT WorkSafe as delegated. Context statement NT WorkSafe is a division of the Department of Attorney-General and Justice responsible for assisting business and workers understand their obligations under work health and safety, dangerous goods, electrical safety and workers compensation legislation. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Respond to requests for information and support government, industry and the public meet their statutory obligations under the legislation administered by NT WorkSafe. 2. Provide advice to stakeholders on license and permit applications, and authorisations established by legislation administered by NT WorkSafe. 3. Provide first response to incident notifications, safety concerns and conduct triage assessments. 4. Process license and permit applications including examination, evaluation and making recommendations to delegates. 5. Prepare licensing related correspondence including letters and internal memorandums. 6. Provide research documentation and assistance to delegates on work health and safety issues, preventative strategies and legislative obligations. 7. Operate and maintain databases for regulatory performance and monitoring requirements. 8. Assist in on the job training of less experienced staff and contribute to the development of work plans and team goals. Selection criteria Essential 1. High-level organisational skills, self-motivation and the ability to plan and prioritise tasks to ensure timeframes are met. 2. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and agency licensing processes. 3. Demonstrated effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 4. Demonstrated ability to undertake research tasks, evaluate information and formulate recommendations. 5. Well-developed interpersonal skills, experience providing quality customer service and operating as an effective team member. 6. Good knowledge and understanding of accepted records management practices, procedures and systems. Desirable 1. Previous experience within a regulatory agency in work health and safety or allied field. 2. Experience with IT systems and software packages.
