The Role Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) is responsible for skills assessments for a range of technical and trade occupations under the Migration Regulations 1994, offering skills assessment services for people with trade skills gained overseas or in Australia, for the purpose of migration. Skills assessments are intended to ensure a successful applicant can perform at the required skill level for their nominated occupation and provide assurance to government and to the individual that their training and experience is relevant and appropriate. A successful outcome will satisfy the skills assessment requirement for an application with the Department of Home Affairs for a relevant visa. The TRA IT team is responsible for ensuring the TRA website and IT systems used for delivering migrant skills assessments are stable, secure, fit-for-purpose and adaptable. As the business owner of the TRA website and TRA IT assessment system, Trades II, we work in close partnership with TRA Program Managers and the technical owner to ensure business and service continuity. Project Officer may work across other priorities in TRA, including supporting the implementation of business projects and/or Budget Measures. Reporting to the Senior Project Officer, TRA IT Systems & Enhancements, the Project Officer is responsible for the timely delivery of IT enhancement projects, management of the TRA IT group mailbox and coordination with stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a skilled, creative, and motivated individual who works collaboratively, adapts quickly, and who provides clear and concise communications. Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities of the APS Level 5 Project Officer may include:

  • Liaising with TRA program teams and with technical specialists to specify and clarify business requirements for IT changes.
  • Drafting and publishing web content using a content management system and regularly review existing content.
  • Helping to provide direction to IT projects in line with strategic priorities and operating within agreed governance arrangements.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and reviewing operational processes and documentation to support effective management, monitoring, and compliance of departmental IT systems.
  • Working to identify and manage IT issues as they arise, including investigation with affected work areas, resolving incidents and complaints, and escalation of any required IT changes to a technical team.
  • Working collaborative as part of a team, including leading and mentoring junior team members.
  • Managing the TRA IT group mailbox to provide ICT support to the broader branch and external customers.
