The Collective on Anti-Racism (COAR) was nurtured on the stolen lands of Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country. We seek to curate anti-racist spaces in Canberra. We run a monthly anti-racist BIPOC-centred discussion group and hold small monthly community events for the BIPOC community. We also use our platforms to strengthen and celebrate the BIPOC communities in Canberra.

We are seeking a Secretary (Volunteer Role) with strong organisational and time management skills to join our Committee and support the day-to-day operations of our organisation.

COAR has a key ethos of sharing and centring the lived experiences of BIPOC people for the purposes of anti-racist learning. Our spaces follow our Principled Space Guidelines which you can find on our website.

The role of the Secretary is as follows:

  • Ensuring action items and tasks are communicated clearly and being executed by the relevant members in the Committee, following up with them as necessary.
  • Scheduling meetings, including chairing and writing the agenda and noting the minutes for the Committees weekly meetings.
  • Maintaining up to date records of important documents and organisation requirements, such as volunteer contacts, public liability insurance, any necessary memberships.
  • Managing the Committees calendar.
  • Managing email communication.
  • Supporting the Collective Manager as necessary.

You will be supported by the COAR Committee, but will be expected to work independently and take initiative. This is a volunteer role, with the possibility of remuneration, dependent on grants.
