Ipswich State High School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Vocational Trainer specialising in Hairdressing and/or Barbering to join our team of teachers and vocational trainers in our Trade Training Centre.
We are looking for a forward-thinking staff member to build relationships with the local community and build our trade program to develop our students pathways.
This role is offered on a temporary part-time basis, at 0.82 FTE and 60 hours per fortnight, unless otherwise determined.
About Ipswich State High School
Ipswich State High School is a school of 1800 students and is steadily growing. Our school vision of Respect and Responsibility is enacted through our High Expectations behaviour framework and encouraged in everything we do, building positive relationships within the school and the local community. The successful applicant for this position will possess extensive industry experience, strong experience in vocational training and assessment including writing of training resources and a desire to work with school aged students. We have a number of signature programs that have been developed over time that makes us a choice of schooling in Ipswich and the surrounding areas. Designated DoE Programs of Excellence allow enrolments from outside of catchment (STEM, Dance, Rugby League, Hair and Beauty and Construction and Horticulture). Ipswich State High School has 30% of the students identifying as being either Aboriginal or Torres Strait, or Maori or Pacific Islander background, with more than 10% being born overseas. There is an increasing number of refugee enrolments that are provided with tailored EALD support. The school is an accredited International Student Program School and regularly hosts both long-term student exchanges and short-term study tours.
About the Role
Ipswich State High School has a High-Performance Hair and Beauty Excellence Program endorsed by the Department of Education. Ipswich SHS is the only school that has an operating training Salon, located in our Trade Centre. Students are rostered in the Salon allowing students to obtain real industry experience and with our schools community links, sets them up for transitioning to employment.
As a member of the teaching team, you will contribute to developing and delivering quality learning services to our students through: -Outcome focused vocational education and training (VET) program; -Linking with industry, schools, and other VET providers; and Maintaining currency with industry practices, workplace delivery and contemporary teaching methodologies and philosophies; Highly desirable is additional vocational qualifications or experience in delivering Beauty Services and/ or Nail Services.
It is essential the applicant hold a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, Certificate III in Hairdressing, or a Certificate III in Barbering, or a Certificate IV in Hairdressing, or be able to demonstrate equivalence of competencies; and
- have at least three years full time employment experience as a hairdresser in a salon environment where they have applied the skills and knowledge covered in this unit of competency to assess this unit as part of a hairdressing qualification; this cannot include any indentured traineeship or apprenticeship period; or
- have at least three years full time employment experience as a barber in a shop or salon environment where they have applied the skills and knowledge covered in this unit of competency to assess this unit as part of a barbering qualification; this cannot include any indentured traineeship or apprenticeship period.
