Asset Engineer - Onshore Oil & Gas - Non-Technical Risk functionLocation: Brisbane, QueenslandRoster: Monday to Friday office basedDuration: 24 - month contractDay rate: $900-1000/day inc super

Are you an experienced Asset Engineer with a passion for planning and integration in large-scale onshore energy projects? We are seeking a driven and adaptable professional to join a multidisciplinary team within the Integrated Gas business, delivering critical non-technical risk (NTR) planning across exploration, operations, and decommissioning phases of the upstream asset lifecycle.

About the Role As an Asset Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning and coordination of non-technical risk (NTR) requirements such as tenure and permitting, environment, cultural heritage, land access, and social performance. Youll support the delivery of Access to Work (ATW) packages—ensuring execution readiness across all scopes of work—and help integrate functional deliverables into a streamlined approval process. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role where youll liaise with a wide range of stakeholders and respond to shifting timelines and priorities, contributing to project delivery valued at approximately $400M annually.

Key Responsibilities

  • Progress project scopes through internal Upstream Delivery Processes (UDP), ensuring compliance, schedule alignment, and execution efficiency.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders to optimise Released from Development (RFD) scope and manage risks across well locations and gathering infrastructure.
  • Prioritise and manage deliverables from survey, engineering, permitting, mapping, landholder negotiations, and more to meet ATW milestones.
  • Identify and mitigate conflicting technical and non-technical constraints; propose and implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Monitor parallel engineering designs to ensure alignment with NTR compliance and project development objectives.
  • Develop Project Change Requests (PCRs) based on multi-stakeholder input to adjust sanctioned scope or mitigate execution risk.
  • Support post-ATW execution plans, ensuring negotiated landholder or environmental requirements are upheld.
  • Maintain documentation quality to ensure regulatory and licence-to-operate compliance.
Key Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Geoscience, Environmental Science, Infrastructure Planning, or related discipline.
  • Practical understanding of NTR components associated with onshore natural gas developments.
  • Experience in infrastructure constructability, HSSE requirements, and the end-to-end onshore gas value chain.
  • Strong knowledge of upstream engineering and project planning processes (brownfield and greenfield).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple planning horizons, solve complex problems, and influence stakeholders across diverse technical and functional areas.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to present complex information clearly and negotiate with internal and external parties.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment frameworks and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience working in environments with shifting priorities and high regulatory scrutiny is desirable.
What Youll Bring
  • Strong project planning and integration capabilities
  • Confidence working in a cross-functional environment with limited formal authority
  • Ability to manage competing constraints, make sound decisions, and maintain a focus on safety, compliance, and efficiency
  • Motivation to drive results in a fast-paced and schedule-driven asset environment
